Suggestions for Writing a Letter of Reference

Crafting an effective letter of recommendation should always be taken seriously since it could mean the difference between a candidate being selected or rejected for an interview and/or position. This requires some effort.

There is no "one right way" to craft a recommendation letter. It must reflect your perceptions and experiences with the candidate; be written in your style, in your words. Click here for suggestions from NACEweb for writing a letter of recommendation.

Credential File Service via "Interfolio"*
The Career Center has partnered with this service which allows reference letter writers to submit a reference letter electronically to Interfolio, or mail a printed copy which Interfolio will convert to an electronic version. This allows you to write just one letter of reference, which the student can send to multiple employers or institutions of higher education to which they are applying. Letters can be designated confidential or non-confidential.

*Students must have an account with Interfolio in order to receive this service.
