Interview Preparation and Practice

One of the most invaluable things you can do to achieve a successful interview is to be fully prepared.  If you’ve never had a job interview, there are steps you can take to be ready. Even if you’ve had several, it's important not to be complacent. Do your research for each one and allow ample time to prepare fully.

You'll need to practice your interview, research the company, make sure your interview attire is appropriate, clean and neat - and have a polished resume. Interviewing is a skill; and as with all skills, preparation and practice maximize that skill. Preparation can make the difference between getting an offer and not getting one.

Practice Interviews: The Career Center uses Optimal Resume's Interview Prep to conduct and record practice interviews. Interview Prep allows you to observe your body language and speech patterns in order to build on your strengths and correct your weaknesses, and is a great way to develop your interview information and delivery! (Please note that accepting a real interview solely to get interview practice is never appropriate.)

Optimal Resume/Interview Prep enables you to practice many kinds of questions as often as you want. To use it you must be registered with Optimal Resume. This is free for USF students and alumni. If you have a computer with a microphone and camera, you can record your interviews. However, you can practice even without recording these. The Career Center also has one that can be scheduled for your use.

If you record and save an interview, a Career Counselor can provide additional feedback to help you improve your answers.

Below you will find several resources to help you make a great impression at your interview!
